
It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Ethel Northcut (Steele) on September 22, 2016.
She was born in Weyburn, Sask. on July 24, 1923. She attended school in Weyburn and went on to complete her teacher’s training in Regina in 1942. In 1971 she graduated from the University of Regina with her Bachelor of Education degree.
She joined the RCAF in 1943 and graduated as a wireless operator. During WWII, she was stationed in Winnipeg where she provided wireless radio training to airmen from many parts of the world.
She married Leonard Northcut in 1946 and together they raised three daughters on their farm east of Maryfield, Sask. She continued her teaching career in Manitoba at Woodville, Butler, Kola, and Killarney. She ended her career teaching high school in Maryfield.
She was widowed in 1979. In 1998 she married Vern Tompkins of St Albert, Alta. They spent eight happy years together until his passing in 2006.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Leah Ayers (Brian) St. Albert, Alta.; Arla Klooster (Bill) Tavistock, Ont.; and Lonnie Itschner (Drew) Eugene, OR; along with eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Maryfield at a later date.
