Edith "Jean" Abrahamson, late of Moosomin, Sask., passed away peacefully on December 17, 2016 at the age of 93 years.
She was predeceased by her second husband Gordon, parents Rachel and Frank Graham, first husband Donald Fyke and daughter Darlene.
She is survived by her son Lynn (Alice) and their children Karen, Anne and Paul (Jacklyn), grandchildren Tomas and Claire, Darlene's son Richard (Anne) Grossman and grandchildren Matthieu and Danelle.
Jean was born on March 8, 1923 at Moosomin and grew up on the family farm in the Stanley District north east of town. In 1944 Jean married Donald Fyke of Moosomin and in September of 1945 a daughter, Darlene Jean, was born. Don was killed tragically in a truck/train accident at Fleming that also injured Jean's father, Frank Graham. Eventually Jean met Gordon Abrahamson at a dance, an activity that was to remain a shared passion for many, many years.
In 1949 Gordon and Jean were married and to this union in 1952 was born a son, Lynn, a brother for Darlene.
Gordon and Jean milked cows commercially with Gordon's parents until assuming ownership of the farm in 1966. It was not an easy existence, but never-the-less Jean was a supportive partner in all aspects of farm life. Despite playing an active role in the farm, Jean found time and energy to look after a large garden and all that entails, plus feed what at times seemed like a threshing crew plus keep a house tidy and running smoothly.
Besides going to dances with other couples, Jean was very involved in the Royal Purple Lodge #214. Gatherings of former Lodge Sisters were much looked forward to events.
Christmas was Jean's favourite time of year and she enjoyed decorating the house. Expansion of the kitchen afforded the opportunity to string mini-lights along with Anne's help throughout the kitchen; it also led to the start of a Christmas village which eventually covered the old chrome kitchen table completely.
Jean's later years saw a decline in her mobility and finally her health. After living in her own house for as long as it was possible, Jean moved to Crocus Cove in the Long Term Care facility in 2014. The family will always be grateful for the care Jean received as a Home Care client and as a Long Term Care resident.
Those who wish may make a memorial donation in Jean's name to the Long Term Care facility.
A memorial service was held on December 29, 2016 at Bethel United with Rev. Joan Rennie-Laing officiating.
May she rest in peace.
