It is with sadness and a great appreciation for a life well lived that our dear father passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2021 at the South East Integrated Care Centre Long Term Care at the age of 96 after a short stay following a fall in June.

Archie was born and raised on the family farm north of Fleming and attended Fleming school. He met and married Gwen McEwen, a close neighbor, on July 17, 1944. At age 19 he began farming by renting land and eventually buying land in the Stanley school district. Archie and Gwen worked hard side by side to develop a successful mixed farming operation that was later incorporated as Longview Farms with his son Ron and family. They retired to Moosomin in 2009, enjoying community activities there and in Fleming as well, regularly coffeeing with friends.

Archie was devoted to his family, always supportive, interested and encouraging and continued to faithfully attend grandchildren’s sporting events. Mom and Dad enjoyed hosting many family gatherings, often ending in games of Chase the Ace.

Archie was a dedicated community worker, he was a member of the Elks, Legion, United Church board and RM councillor, supporting many charities—always selling tickets for a good cause. Archie and Gwen loved to dance, enjoyed curling and golfing and made many friends throughout the province at RM conventions and Elks bonspiels. Archie and Gwen enjoyed traveling to places in Europe, US and Canada as well.

Archie was an avid reader, had many farming subscriptions and was always interested in new farming methods, crops and machinery, loved World War II history, country music and watching sports on TV, particularly Blue Jays and Rider games. He loved a good joke, had a hearty laugh and enjoyed roast beef dinners. He was a devoted John Deere tractor man. He was always interested in the weather and wrote about it daily in his diary. He was loved and will be dearly missed.

Archie will be lovingly remembered by his children Jean Baily, Blanche (Dennis) McRae, Bob (Colleen) Frape, Ron (Joyce)Frape. Grandchildren Karen, Mark, Doug, Denise, Dallas, Brad, Susan, Curtis, Kristel, Andrew, Owen, Jennifer, Amanda; 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Also brother-in-law Eddie McEwen, sister-in-law Eileen McMullen, Audrey McEwen as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

Archie was predeceased by his loving wife Gwen of 75 years (2019), his parents Arthur and Lucy Frape, in-laws Robert and Kathleen McEwen, his siblings Harry (Eileen), Margaret (Blake) Pierce, Elsie Pastuck, Clarence (Meagan), Walter (Elenor), Howard (Merle), and Bert, brothers-in-law Richard, Ross, Donnie McEwen, Jim McMullen, sister in-law Florence McEwen, sons-in-law Doug Duke and Norm Baily.

Funeral service for Archie was held September 11, 2021 at Bethel United church, Moosomin, Sask with Moosomin Elks Lodge members as Honorary pallbearers, followed by luncheon at the Legion Hall. Memorial donations may be made to Moosomin Legion or Elks Purple Cross Fund or to a charity of your choice.
