In the early hours of Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Wayne passed away peacefully. He was born August 13, 1934 to Glen and Maude Burns in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, Garry (Susan) and Darcy (Charlotte); his grandchildren, Erin, Alison (Todd) and Patrick (Kelsey); great-grandchildren, Asmara, Maddex and Paxton; and his brother Colby (Anita). He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Beryl.
Wayne met the love of his life, Marjorie, in Grade 2 and they were married on April 23, 1957. After graduating, Wayne went to Prince George to play hockey. He began his career with Sasktel in 1954 in Regina, then Swift Current, Prince Albert and Saskatoon where he retired in 1991.
His love for hockey was rekindled when he joined the old timers team in Swift Current. They played in various international tournaments, winning several championships. This ignited his passion for travel which took him to Europe, Asia, England, Greece, Australia and New Zealand among many others. When he wasn’t travelling, he spent summers at the cottage at Moosomin Lake.
Wayne enjoyed square and round dancing, golfing, gardening, bird watching, playing cards or games and puttering around. He loved spending time surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren. Wayne was a devoted husband, father and grandpa.
He will be forever remembered by family and friends. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
