The town of Rocanville will be holding a grand opening soon for a new eco centre that will be located at the town’s transfer station.
The eco centre will be a used oil recycling location. Used oil can be dropped off at that location, anyone in the region can use the recycling centre, not just Rocanville residents.
Previously, an eco centre used to be located at the Kin Ability Centre in Moosomin, however when the Kin Ability decided they could no longer manage the eco centre, Saskatchewan Association for Resource Recovery Corp (SARRC) began looking for a new location in the area. SARRC approached the town of Rocanville who decided to take it on.
SARRC has a province-wide collection network of nearly 130 collection points and eco centres in communities that accept used oil, used oil filters, used antifreeze, antifreeze and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) containers.
The eco centre at the Rocanville transfer station is still being set up but administrator Tanya Strandlund said last week they are hoping to have a grand opening sometime in the next few weeks.
In 2024, SARRC collected 16.2 million litres of used oil, 1.7 million used oil filters, .39 million litres of antifreeze, and .407 million kilograms of used oil, antifreeze and diesel exhaust fluid containers.
