At the end of the day last Thursday, Moosomin was second in the province for Holiday Smile Cookie sales, selling over $11,000 worth of cookies.
In first place was Humboldt with $14,446 in sales.
There were still three days left of sales to go before the Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign wrapped up as of midnight on Sunday.
Greg Crisanti, the owner of Tim Hortons in Moosomin, said sales in Western Canada had been so robust that the warehouse that supplies the Holiday Smile Cookie batter in Winnipeg had run out.
““We are really close, it’s amazing, and for the first time in a long time we actually drained our GFS warehouse out Winnipeg, so Winnipeg has told owners that we don’t have anymore Holiday Smile Cookies left that are with the red and green sprinkles and that we will have to move to our chocolate chunk,” he said.
“But we are going to make sure we have cookies available so we can still help with some smiles until Sunday at midnight.
“It’s remarkable that we’ve done that. It’s outstanding and I see it every campaign—year over year other owners and our head office folks are noticing just the amazing job and dedication our little town of Moosomin has, it’s just remarkable.

“We are so proud of our team—our team thrives on it too. They are having a lot of fun, especially around this time of year. It’s a busy time of year, but we have the holiday music pumping in the restaurant and it’s great to see all of the volunteers and the smiling faces. Everyone has a great time doing it, and to know we are supporting great causes in our community is just remarkable.
“I couldn’t be more proud. It’s some friendly competition, but the dollars that we are raising to give back to our community, it’s been so great for us.”
What makes Moosomin area so supportive?
“I don’t really know the secret behind it, but basically everyone has everyone’s back, and when the community needs something, everyone is there for everyone and it’s remarkable to see the support, not just from Moosomin but the surrounding communities. We are all in it together and it’s great,” says Crisanti.
Crisanti says the organizations that receive funding through the Smile Cookie campaigns each year really appreciate the support.
“They’re so thankful, and you see charities and organizations that you’ve dealt with in the past, they still thank me if we run into them at a hockey game or around the community. They’re so thankful and for long-term that’s amazing, and you get to see it if they’re building new playgrounds, if they’re getting new sports equipment, upgrades to their location. It’s really great.”
He says Moosomin’s extreme support of the Smile Cookie campaigns has led to the town being noticed.
“We are definitely getting recognized and we are on the map. I know we have other restaurants reaching out to us asking what we are doing and how we are raising the dollars that we are. How are we selling so many cookies in the population that we have. It’s outstanding and really it comes down to the support and the community’s love.”

As for the warehouse running out of batter, Crisanti says that has only happened once in the past.
“It has happened once before on our very first year when Moosomin was actually a test store. We were the first restaurant to try it out, to see if our holiday campaign would go, and we ran out of holiday cookies that year. But we just didn’t know what to expect or how big it was going to be. But now with the holiday cookie I think it has been going for four or five years, maybe longer, and we thought we had it, but it’s just a bunch of restaurants selling a ton. I know in Manitoba, Steinbach is right on our tail too. Again Dauphin, they have always done really good.
“The numbers that are coming in, we just don’t have enough cookies, but we won’t run out of cookies. There will be a smile on something until Sunday and we will be selling it for sure.”
