Town wide garage sale in Moosomin on May 13

On Saturday, May 13, different houses across Moosomin will be participating in a town-wide garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“It’s going to be happening all around town. People can either call me or email me with their address, and we’ll make a map and star all of the different addresses that are having garage sales,” said Casey McCormac, Economic Development Officer.
The addresses of the houses participating in the garage sale will be listed on a map posted on the town’s Facebook page, as well at the town office.
“The map will be put up on May 11th in the morning,” she said.
“We will post the map on Facebook, have a big one in the town office window that people can snap a picture of, and also one on Rolna Pranke’s community clipboard.
“We’ll also have paper maps available at the town office Thursday and Friday or at IDA on Saturday.”
The deadline for people to have their addresses placed on the map is by May 10 at 4 p.m.
McCormac said the town decided to host the community day event based on the demand in town.
“I’ve had people come to me about it because most of the surrounding communities host them,” she said.
“I’m pretty sure Rocanville, Esterhazy, if you go on Facebook and type in ‘town-wide garage sale’ pretty much all communities have one, so I thought this is something the town should do.”
As of Friday, 24 families have committed to the garage sale.
“The event is on mother’s day weekend, we’re hoping that will bring more people out, and even from some surrounding communities because there’s a garage sale,” said McCormac.
“In return it will help our businesses, people will go to the greenhouse for flowers for Mother’s Day, people will go to the different businesses in town for Mother’s Day sales.
“I think it will just help the community as a whole and bring more people into town.
“If it goes well this year, I think it will become an annual event, and we’ll have more time to prepare for next year.”
The town-wide garage sale is a chance for people to get rid of anything they are no longer using in their homes, said McCormac.
“I think this is a good thing to get people from sitting in their houses and to go out when the weather is nice,” she said.
“It will be good for social interaction, and to make some cash on the side. As well as spring cleaning.”
