A man was shot dead by police in the Manitoba town of Niverville overnight while another man sped off in a stolen vehicle. The vehicle in which the man was shot appears to match the vehicle that led police on a high speed chase in the Moosomin area Tuesday evening. The vehicle was stolen two weeks ago, and the thieves put 6,079 km on the truck since that time.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the area of Drovers Run, a business strip that runs parallel to Highway 311 through the town, which is about 20 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

Another man got away in a stolen vehicle while a woman is in custody, RCMP said.

Police are also at a second scene, just southeast of Niverville at the corner of Highways 59 and 305. They say it is connected to the incident in the town.
The other scene involved a Winnipeg police cruiser with bullet holes in the windshield.

Drovers Run is expected to be blocked off for much of the day as police investigate. More information will be provided as soon as it is available, the RCMP said.
