The Creative Vision Productions performance of Footloose is coming up this weekend on Nov. 22-24 with one show on Friday, one on Saturday, and two on Sunday. However with all shows sold out, and a long waiting list for tickets, the decision was made last week to move to row seating and add 150 more tickets per show—for a total of 600 additional tickets.
“We had something crazy happen that’s not ever happened before: we sold out after two weeks of the show being for sale,” said Sandra Poole, who is Music Director with the community theatre company.
“There were 350 seats per performance,” she said. “We have been doing table settings with tables of eight, and then offering the dessert during the intermission while we get set up for Act Two, and then giving everybody a break to stretch. But we had to get rid of the tables. We still have the reserved seating, and people who ordered tickets ahead of time will have priority seating—that has not changed at all.”
Poole believes the increased amount of tickets should meet demand, but the overwhelming support for this particular production has the whole team flabbergasted.
“We’re shocked, we’ve always had really great crowds since we started in 2011, but we have never had this,” she said. “But then we have kids coming from eight different communities, and all around our area, so maybe that’s it, too—a broader group of people are coming to perform, so maybe that’s what it is? Or maybe they just love the film, because it’s very popular, everybody seems to know Footloose.”
Whether it is a case of ‘80s nostalgia or that larger pool of talent drawing an even bigger audience—it is a cast of 60 members ranging from ages 12 to 92—the Moosomin Convention Centre is going to be packed!
The Broadway version of Footloose (which came out four years after the movie) differs somewhat from the film, but some of those classic tunes from the motion picture soundtrack are still there.
“After the movie came out in ’84, they did a Broadway version of it, so some of the songs that you hear in the movie are actually being sung by our cast members,” Poole said, listing ‘Let’s Hear it for the Boy,’ and ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ as a couple of the popular songs to be featured.
Footloose the Musical runs Nov. 22, 23, and 24 at 7 pm with a 1 pm performance on the Sunday. Tickets are $35 and are available by contacting Kendra at (306) 818-0088.
